Methods and materials used in historic buildings

The performance characteristics of historic buildings are different to modern buildings. Methods and materials used on historic buildings must be the similar to those used in the past or it can cause both short-term and long-term damage. Often the minimum intervention approach is best alongside regular maintenance. Those involved in practical building conservation have a responsibility for safeguarding the historic building fabric.
