Roles and responsibilities related to BIM.

BIM training is important, but its only one piece of the puzzle. You also need to think about your HR strategy, which is made up of responsibility for BIM and an assessment of staff training needs.

BIM resources

Responsibility for BIM considers if there is senior management leadership for BIM, or if it is allocated to one individual.

Secondly, having clear roles and responsibilities for information management is key. You might want to have a look at aligning these to PAS 1192-2:2013.

When we then think about training, the BIM experts from our Partner organisations told us that it’s important to think about both process training and technical training. In other words, you might have all the technical capability in the world, but if you don’t have processes in place which are well communicated to the relevant people then your hard work might go to waste.

Also think about the type of training you’re providing for different roles: your senior managers or directors will need different training to the technical team who use BIM on a regular basis. This is where your staff training needs assessment comes in.
