Health & Safety
To many, the topic of Health and Safety is integral to the sustainability mix. The School concentrates on providing advice on the Environmental and Social aspects of sustainability but would urge all companies to develop their skills and knowledge of the health & safety agenda.
Accidents in the construction industry are estimated to account for 2-6% of total project costs. With nearly 4000 major injuries reported to HSE by the construction industry every year, it makes financial and practical sense to put precautions in place.
It is commonly cited that if staff feel they have got the company behind them, they are more motivated to take responsibility, which is where sustainability comes in. By taking care of the health and safety of employees, organisations are more likely to have engaged and responsible teams.
