Constructing the Circular Economy

This workshop is aimed at materials suppliers and trade contractor company directors, managers and supervisors who already have a basic idea of the key principles of the circular economy. This ½ day workshop will explore how these key principles could be practically embedded into these organisations.

This workshop will provide participants with:
  • Information on the lifecycle of materials and typical service lives
  • An overview of materials sourcing and scarcity issues, and the drivers for moving towards a Circular Economy model
  • An introduction to product lifecycles and how these could be optimised
  • Methods of designing for maintenance, deconstruction and disassembly
  • Details of how products can be designed for reuse, refurbishment, remanufacture or recycling and the logistics required
  • An understanding of how maintenance requirements can be linked to business models
  • Information on different business models and determine which business models best suit their individual materials
  • Tools to enable the measurement of the circularity of their materials
  • Information on building certification standards that promote circular economy principles
  • Practical examples of how circular economy principles have been incorporated into construction materials and projects
At the end of the workshop participants will:
  • Understand the principles of a Circular Economy and how these could be applied to construction products
  • Have an understanding of the lifecycle and service life their key products
  • Understand the issues that may affect the future supply of their raw materials
  • Have an understanding of how their products could be designed to be more circular
  • Understand which business models would best suit their products in a circular economy
