Future of Gas

SGN manages the network that distributes a safe and reliable supply of natural and green gas to 5.9 million homes and businesses across Scotland and the south of England.

We’re committed to accelerating the UK towards a shared net zero future in 2045 by reducing our business carbon footprint and decarbonising the gas transported through our network.

Our approach, as we drive towards net zero, is linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It’s clear we can’t reach our targets without taking a co-ordinated approach, and focusing on what matters to our customers, stakeholders and our people.

Sustainability and Supply Chain

Engagement with our supply chain is critical to the successful delivery of our targets. We are committed to achieving relationships with suppliers that are mutually beneficial and promote best practice and continuous improvement throughout our operations.

Building on our current Responsible Procurement Charter we are developing a new Supplier Code of Conduct which will ensure that we and our suppliers operate with minimum levels of environment impact.

Supply Chain Learning

Working with the Supply Chain Sustainability School, we have selected the following learning; which we are keen for our supply chain to undertake.

Why a Partner?

Our approach to engage with our supply chain has received support from some of our stakeholders and our customers, while others expressed concern that smaller suppliers with fewer resources would not be able to meet our increased requirements. This is why we have decided to engage with the Supply Chain Sustainability School.

“We are very excited about having joined the school as the first gas distribution network to do so. I see great opportunities to provide support to our suppliers and contractors, to help our own people on the journey towards net zero and for interesting collaboration opportunities with other Partners.”
