The Fairness, Inclusion and Respect (FIR) programme is an industry-wide initiative that aims to make workplaces better for everyone. The  programme provides, free, industry-endorsed training and resources, guidance and materials, that supports businesses to be more innovative and profitable by addressing workplace culture challenges, and helps attract and retain people from the full pool of talent.

You can access free online resources (the FIR Toolkit) and attend free training workshops. As an employer we help you to meet your legal obligations around equality, diversity and anti-discrimination and empower your people to make your workplace more supportive for all.

Why is FIR so Important?

Promoting  a culture of fairness, inclusion and respect brings many business benefits to the companies that work to achieve it.  As a sector, we need to embrace FIR in order to attract, recruit, train and retain the skills in order to address the industry-wide skills shortage. Clients and large contractors are increasingly expecting their supply chain partners to work with them to achieve this.

Our vision is one of a more inclusive built environment sector, that is better able to attract, recruit, train and retain talent and meet the expectations of all our stakeholders.

New SME Community Hub 2024

Our new SME Community Hub, developed with CITB funding, is here! It’s designed to support SMEs with industry-endorsed information, learning resources, and guidance on inclusive growth.

FIR Culture Impact Report 2024

Results are in for the ninth annual FIR Culture Impact Report. The School surveyed over 1,600 of its members, with respondents reporting positively to both organisational outcomes and impact on individuals. The Programme continues to provide valuable support to the sector.

Take the FIR Growth Assessment

 

 

The FIR Growth Assessment offers employers a structured way to develop and embed fairness, inclusion and respect (FIR) in their company. This approach allows employers to support their workers and grow their business. Please note that you will need to be an admin on your corporate account to complete the assessment.

FIR Ambassadors promote a culture of Fairness, Inclusion and Respect within the organisation in which they work. They are expected to embody the principles of FIR: work collaboratively, whilst stepping in to take action, challenge behaviours and positively impact workplace culture.

The business value of FIR Ambassadors:

  • Improve workplace culture so the business is better able to attract, train and retain talent
  • Demonstrate a commitment to FIR, to staff, new recruits, clients and other stakeholders
  • Develop the knowledge and capability of people
