Wates Group is a family-owned development, construction & maintenance services company.
At the heart of our purpose is our approach to Creating Tomorrow Together and our belief that business done well can be a force for a good.
Wates Group’s focus on sustainability comprises four key priorities; the wellbeing of people; delivering quality, sustainable buildings; developing social value for communities, and protecting and enhancing our environment.
Why a Partner?
Wates believes to achieve its 2025 vision we need a supply chain that understands the issues surrounding our key priorities. As the issues continue to change and new challenges arise, the Supply Chain Sustainability School provides a simple and effective way of accessing resources and knowledge to equip our supply chain members with this information. The collaborative approach across the sector is a win win as it provides a common message to the supply chain which we all use. Wates are proud to be members of this industry initiative.
People are our number one priority and we are committed to creating a culture which ensures our people, and all those who we work with, are protected from harm. This means supporting their physical, emotional and mental wellbeing and driving campaigns that address stress, fatigue, and lifestyle choices.
We invest in our strong network of Mental Health First Aiders and we are proud of our industry-leading safety record, with a performance well above the industry average.
As an Investors in People Gold accredited employer we take the professional and personal development of our people seriously. We respect and celebrate people’s differences and we have embarked on a journey to develop a more diverse workforce and more inclusive workplace where everyone regardless of background is welcomed, included, and connected.
We work in one of the least environmentally sustainable industries in the world. At Wates we are committed to reducing our industry’s environmental impact and our five-year Strategy sets out this commitment and how, together with our customers and supply chain partners, we can be better custodians of the environment and protect our earths precious resources and habitats for future generations.
Our strategy sets out the following bold targets:
- Zero Waste from Wates Operations by 2025 by reducing and then eliminating the production of all waste produced as a result of materials bought and used in the process of delivering our work.
- Zero Carbon from Wates operations and operational vehicles by 2025 (Scope 1 and 2 emissions)
- Positive Impact on Nature, enhancing the natural environment where we operate and increasing the value and community benefit of nature in areas where we are working.
We are partners of The Carbon Trust and support The Conservation Volunteers in its work to promote biodiversity and in developing greener, more sustainable, places.
Wates is BIM Level 2 accredited, supporting the Governments and our own drive towards improving construction standards and to looking for better ways to deliver buildings safely, sustainably, and to the highest quality.
We work with our customers and supply chain partners to find innovative ways to develop, build and maintain properties for a more sustainable built environment. Wates Sustainable Technology Services supports this drive by helping to identify and implement sustainable, innovative, solutions for more energy and waste efficient buildings.
Wates is a pioneer within its sector in creating social value to help build healthier and more prosperous communities.
Through our award-winning community investment programmes, such as Building Futures and Build Yourself, and our commitment to supporting Social Enterprises, we are working to generate positive, long-term, economic, social, and environmental outcomes for some of the UKs most deprived areas.
And through our charitable and public sector partnerships including the Wates Family Enterprise Trust – we support hundreds of causes that help to ease poverty and loneliness, and which promote better living, education and employment, and improved health and wellbeing.
