Biodiversity refers to plant and animal species diversity within a particular area or habitat. All species contribute to biodiversity with each individual species ultimately playing its own unique part in our global ecosystem. It is important to protect and conserve biodiversity as many species are in decline, and enhanced biodiversity can have a wide range of benefits to society, from human wellbeing to ecosystem services
such as the provision of clean air and water.
Biodiversity is a key and surprisingly underrated issue, and area of of potential impact and opportunity within the homes sector.
Significant opportunities exist in terms of designing homes developments for the benefit of biodiversity, incorporating the use of native flora in housing developments and technology such as green roofs and sustainable urban drainage systems sympathetic to the natural environment.
