Change management is a process by which an organisation may adopt a new way of thinking or working. The process helps those within the organisation manage the challenges (cultural or process driven), that inevitably come with change and help to embed them into the workings of the organisation so they are then seen as the norm.
Whilst we may all learn the skills associated with industrializing our approach to construction, unless we have the skills to lead change in our own businesses we will not achieve the changes that we are aiming for. The School therefore believes that driving change in organisations is an essential management competency for business success, whether our task is to drive new sustainability skills and standards into our businesses, or to radically re-think the way that we do business, or simply to change behaviours in our teams – whatever we seek to change as managers we need in our “toolbox” the ability to make change happen within our organisations.
The five principles of Leading Change are:
- Inspiring change
- Communication of change
- Change creates emotion
- Change is complex
- Facilitate change
